Together with 5 donors we made sure Kelvin's school cost was paid for the 2013-2014 academic school year! Now we are fundraising for Kelvin's 2014-2015 academic year.
UPDATE: Since being accepted to nKoso in the spring of 2013, Kelvin's family continues to struggle financially. His mother continues to take care of his grandmother, whose health is not good since her stroke. Let's continue to support Kelvin and his family!
Kelvin is just starting school. He is 5 years old and in pre-kindergarten at St. Cecilia Educational Center. Kelvin lives in a rural community in the Brong Ahafo region in mid-western Ghana. Children in Sub-Saharan Africa are most vulnerable to not completing an education, as 1 in 6 drop out by 2nd grade.
Many people in Kelvin's community were not formally educated which makes it difficult for them to earn a sustainable income. Parents desire a brighter future for their children and are turning to affordable private schools. Public education in developing countries often doesn't provide adequate services to students. They struggle with over-crowding and a lack of staff accountability.
Kelvin likes going to school and learning English. He enjoys playing football (soccer) and admires Abedi Pele, a legendary Ghanaian footballer (soccer player). He lives with his mother, grandmother and his sibling. Kelvin's father abandoned the family awhile ago and his mother and grandmother have provided for him since. His grandmother recently had a stroke and has not been able to help the family. His mother sells various food items like eggs and bread, but earns very little income.
Kelvin is young and with our help he will have a bright future ahead of him. His family has fallen on hard times and it is becoming difficult to continue paying for Kelvin's education. For only $124 we can provide a year of education for Kelvin!
