Kelvin is a 14 year old and in Junior High School. He lives in the Brong Ahafo region of Ghana. Children living in Sub-Saharan countries like Ghana are less likely to complete school. One in 6 leave school before 2nd grade. Kelvin lives in a rural community near the Ivory Coast border. Many members of the community are not formally educated and struggle to provide for themselves and their families. Even for students fortunate to be in school like Kelvin, it is difficult for parents to afford the cost.
Kelvin attends St. Cecilia Educational Centre where his favorite subject is social studies and he hopes to be a journalist. He loves to play football (soccer) and admires Robin van Persie (a famous Dutch footballer). Kelvin lives with an aunt and his two siblings. His parents traveled away and have never returned. No one has any information about where they are. His aunt sells drinking water on the street, but it is difficult to earn an income especially during the rainy season when not many people are buying her water. As a result, sometimes Kelvin is not able to go to school because she is not able to pay the cost of his schooling.
Kelvin's aunt is determined to educate her family, but due to financial hardship this is proving to be difficult. Donating even just $5 to Kelvin's 2013-2014 school year would be helpful in making a difference to this family. Together we can ensure that Kelvin gets the education he deserves!
