Together with 4 donors we made sure Elvis's school cost was paid for the 2013-2014 academic school year! Now we are fundraising for his 2014-2015 academic year.
UPDATE: Elvis's mother continues to struggle to pay for her children's education. She is supporting three children and finds it difficult to manage the education of all three.
Elvis is a 15 year old 8th grader in the Brong Ahafo region in mid-western Ghana. There are approximately 72 million primary school-age children in the world that are not in school and about half of them live in Sub-Saharan African countries like Ghana. Elvis lives in a rural community near the border of the Ivory Coast. Regardless of the hardships in the community, Elvis attends an affordable private school called St. Cecilia Educational Centre. Affordable private schools are a growing trend in developing countries as parents prefer them to the public school systems that are struggling to meet the educational needs of a large numbers of students.
Elvis is described as a very smart student whose favorite subject is social studies. He loves to play football (soccer) and wants to be a professional footballer (soccer player) like Cristiano Ronaldo when he grows up. Elvis lives with his mother and two siblings. His father abandoned the family a number of years ago. His mother trades various food items such as cassava, plantain, and yams in order to pay for Elvis' school tuition.
To guarantee a year of school for Elvis, we need to come together and raise $158. Imagine what it would mean to Elvis and his single mother to know that people care enough to provide a year of education!
