Florence is a 9 year old student in 5th grade. She lives in a rural community in the Brong Ahafo region of mid-western Ghana. School-age children in rural communities are two times less likely to be attending school than those students in urban areas. Many people in Florence's community are not educated and provide for their families by peasant farming.
Florence is described by those who know her as respectful, smart, and friendly. She enjoys playing ampe, reading books, studying English, and hopes to be a doctor when she grows up. Florence's father passed away just two months ago making her mother the sole provider. Due to the recent and unexpected loss of her husband, Florence's mother is not currently earning money for the family.
African women that are educated earn 25% more income, are less likely to contract HIV/AIDS, and more likely to have smaller and healthier families. Florence's mother is struggling as a widow with little to no income. Contribute to her education and let this family know that you support them!
