Philip is the first student that we have successfully raised school fees for both last year and this year!
Philip is 14 years old and lives with his mother and younger brother in a rural community in Ghana, a country in West Africa. He is in 9th grade at an affordable private school called Yesu Mmo where he is a smart student who likes sport activities, but especially the football (soccer) team at school. When he grows up he wants to be the FIFA (Federation Internationale de Football Association) president one day. He admires Asamoah Gyan (a famous Ghanaian footballer). He enjoys studying science and believes that an education will allow him to help his mother.
In 2009 UNICEF reported approximately 1.1 million orphans living in Ghana, so while Philip is fortunate to have his mother, his father died a few years ago. His mother has since struggled to provide for her family. She collects re-usable bags to carry cooking charcoal and sells them in order to earn income for her family, but this is hardly substantial or consistent. Philip helps his mother by looking after his younger brother, but would like to contribute more as he gets older.
nKoso raised money for Philip's 2012-2013 academic school year and we are excited to have the opportunity to raise his tuition for the 2013-2014 year. He is a promising student who deserves to see his dreams come true. His family needs $174 to ensure that Philip will be able to attend school. Together we can easily make this possible for Philip and his family. Easing the burden of school tuition will allow Philip's mother to more adequately provide for the needs of her children.
