Charles is an 8 year old and is in grade three. He lives in the Brong Ahafo region of Ghana. Children living in Sub-Saharan countries like Ghana are less likely to complete school. One in 6 leave school before 2nd grade. Charles lives in a rural community near the Ivory Coast border. Many members of the community are not formally educated and struggle to provide for themselves and their families. Even for students that are fortunate enough to be in school, it is difficult for parents to afford the cost.
Charles attends St. Cecilia Educational Centre where his favorite subject is mathematics. He is a smart, focused student, who hopes to be a bank manager one day. He also loves to play football (soccer). Charles has three siblings, and is solely supported by his mother ever since his father passed away about nine years ago. His mother sells vegetables, but it is difficult to earn a substantial income.
His mother is determined to educate her family, but due to financial hardship this is proving to be difficult. Donating even just $5 to his 2013-2014 school year would be helpful in making a difference to this family. Together we can ensure that Charles gets the education he deserves!
