Kingsford is 10 years old and entering 4th grade in a rural village of the Brong Ahafo region of mid-western Ghana. Of all the primary school-age children of the world about half of them live in Sub-Saharan African countries like Ghana. One in six students living in this region of the world leave school before the 2nd grade.
Kingsford is a shy, but intelligent student who likes science and playing football (soccer). He wants to be a medical doctor when he grows up. He lives with his mother and father and three siblings. His parents are peasant farmers, and their income is not enough to fulfill all their responsibilities to their family. Peasant farmers cultivate crops and sometimes animals on a very small scale. It is not uncommon for people in Ghana to feed their families with crops grown on a small plot of land, but selling their harvests does not provide sustainable income.
Kingsford's family is finding it difficult to guarantee an education for their son. Together we can make a difference to this family and ensure that Kingsford is able to attend the 2012-2013 school year. Even a donation of just $5 would make a difference in improving Kingsford's future!
