Angela is a 14 year old 8th grader attending St. Cecilia Educational Centre in Ghana. St. Cecilia Educational Centre is an affordable private school designed to serve the poor. Despite the cost, Angela's mother believes that a private school will provide a better education for her daughter than a "free" public school. Public schools typically charge a number of fees which make the overall cost comparable to tuition at a private school. Additionally, they are struggling to provide adequate education to a vast number of students.
Angela lives with her mother and her younger sister. Her father is not present in her family and as a result, Angela’s mother works very hard to provide for her daughters. She cooks and cleans in another family’s home in order to provide a meager income to support her own family. Without an education, it is difficult to find sustainable work. Her mother is optimistic about her children’s education and that their future life will be different than her own. An educated African girl is three times less likely to contract HIV/AIDS and typically earns around 25% more future income. Angela is a motivated student who is committed to her studies. She likes to study math and science and endeavors to be a medical doctor when she grows up. When she has free time she likes to read.
Angela will be guaranteed an education this year for only $174. Together we could give the gift of education to this young student with little burden to ourselves. Consider donating to Angela's tuition cost this year and make an enormous difference to this family and the future of this young student!
