Together with a generous donor we made sure Abigail's school fee was paid for the 2013-2014 academic school year and 2014-2015 academic school year! Now we are fundraising for Abigail's 2015-2016 academic year
Abigail is 10 years old and in the 4th grade. She lives in a rural community of the Brong Ahafo in Ghana. Approximately half of primary school-age children in the world that are not in school live in Sub-Saharan African countries like Ghana. In her community it not uncommon for many adults to not be formally educated, and therefore struggle to earn a reliable income. Abigail's stepmother understands the importance of education and sends her to an affordable private school, a model of education that is increasingly popular in developing countries. Public school systems tend to incur a number of fees that can be just as taxing on a family as private school tuition.
Abigail has experienced a lot for being so young and yet continues to want to be in school despite some setbacks. Her mother abandoned her family when Abigail was younger and her father remarried. Since then, her father has passed away. Abigail is cared for by her stepmother, who works selling mobile phone credit to members of the community. Most people in the community don't subscribe to a contracted mobile phone plan and only buy mobile phone credit when they need to use their mobile phones. Abigail's stepmother's income is not guaranteed or reliable and the profits are not much. Abigail likes learning English and dreams about being a nurse when she grows up.
Abigail's school tuition is a substantial expense for her stepmother. It will only require $126 for Abigail to be in school for a year. A lack of resources can delay a student's educational advancement. Together we can ensure that she is not sent home due to lack of financial resources. Donate towards Abigail's education today!
