Together with generous donors we made sure Augustina's school fee was paid for the 2013-2014 academic school year and 2014-2015 academic school year
Augustina is 15 years old and in the 9th grade. She lives in a rural village in the Brong Ahafo region of mid-western Ghana. School-age children in rural communities are two times as likely to not be attending school than those living in urban areas. The lifestyle of people living in urban areas in Ghana is much different than that of those living in rural communities.
Augustina is an intelligent student who enjoys studying English and wants to be a soldier when she grows up. She likes playing football (soccer) and admires Vivian Scott (a Ghanaian actress). Augustina lives with a guardian as her mother has passed away and her father has abandoned the family. Her guardian also cares for two other children. She provides for the family by farming. Peasant farmers grow crops on a small scale to feed their families and hopefully earn a meager profit from selling their crops on the roadside. This is more difficult in remote areas as there are not as many potential customers passing through.
Educated women in Africa earn 25% more income and are less likely to contract HIV/AIDS. Augustina is already behind in school. Let's provide her an opportunity to be educated by helping her family pay for her tuition costs!
