Together with 6 donors we made sure Cletus' school fee was paid for the 2013-2014 academic school year! Now we are fundraising for Cletus' 2014-2015 academic year
Cletus is 12 years old and is in 6th grade. He lives in the Brong Ahafo region of Ghana. Children living in Sub-Saharan countries like Ghana are less likely to complete school. One in 6 leave school before 2nd grade. Joel lives in a rural community near the Ivory Coast border. Many members of the community are not formally educated and struggle to provide for themselves and their families. Even for students in school like Cletus, it is difficult for parents to afford the cost. Cletus attends an affordable private school; a school with a mission to serve the poor. Affordable private schools have become a trend in developing countries as the public school systems are struggling to adequately educate the vast number of young people. Despite being tuition free, public schools typically have a number of hidden fees that can be just as difficult to pay as tuition to a private school. Most parents would struggle to pay a bit more for a quality education.
Cletus is described as a calm, friendly, and jovial child whose favorite subject is mathematics. He loves to play football (soccer) so much that he wants to be a professional footballer when he is older just like his idol Asamoah Gyan. Cletus lives with his parents two siblings. His father has done petty trading and farming to support the family, but is currently dealing with some health issues that is causing a decrease in income.
Cletus's parents are struggling to make ends meet, let alone send him to school. Even a donation as little as $5 can help provide a year of education for Cletus and relieve some burden from his family.
