Samuel is 14 years old and in Junior High 1 in Ghana. Children in Sub-Saharan countries like Ghana are less likely to complete school. One in six children leave school before the 2nd grade. Samuel lives in a rural community in the Brong Ahafo region in mid-western Ghana. Rural communities are home to two times as many children that aren't in school than urban communities. In his community it is hard to maintain a steady job without an education and many people struggle to make ends meet.

Samuel's father works in security, and his mother makes an unreliable and insubstantial income as a petty trader. Even with their combined incomes they find it difficult to afford extra costs, like schooling for Samuel and his three siblings. Despite their hardships, his family is determined to provide a quality education for their son in hope that he can strive for a brighter future. Samuel attends an affordable private school called Yesu Mmo. His parents prefer Yesu Mmo to the public schools because despite being "free", public schools still incur a number of substantial fees that are taxing on the family.

Samuel is an energetic and smart boy who enjoys studying Information Communication Technology and learning English. He says he wants to be a teacher when he grows up and he likes to play football (soccer) for fun. Samuels's family is struggling to provide him with a quality education. We can make a difference to the family help make a difference in Samuel's life just by donating as little as $5 to his education!
