Kingsley is 8 years old and currently in 2nd grade at St. Cecilia Educational Centre in Ghana. In Sub-Saharan Africa, 42% of children leave school early. Kingsley lives with his parents and five siblings in a rural community in the Brong Ahafo region of mid-western Ghana. Children in rural communities, like Kingsley's, are two times more likely to be out of school than a child in an urban environment. It is not uncommon for adults in Kingsley's community to be uneducated and provide food for their families through gardening and growing food on small plots of land or farms.
Kingsley says he wants to be a medical doctor when he grows up and he likes learning English. His parents support the family by raising livestock such as sheep, goats and pigs. This provides food as wel as income if they are able to sell an animal. However, sales are infrequent and yield little income. there have been instances when an epidemic killed off some of the animals, leaving the family in a difficult situation.
It will cost $123 for Kingsley to attend school this year. If we can help pay for Kingsley's school tuition, his parents will be in a better situation to provide educational opportunities for their other children. Let's work together to help this family educate their children!
